“First Supper” Class to Begin on February 24

The Christian Education program invites all students, 6 years and older, to participate in our “First Supper” classes that will begin on Sunday, February 24, and will conclude on Sunday, April 7.

What happened at the event that Holy Scripture describes as “the Last Supper”? What is the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper?
What is the difference between the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper and Holy Communion?

These are among the questions that will be asked and answered for young members of our family of faith in the coming weeks.

The six-week “First Supper” program (historically called “First Communion” in other faith denominations) will explore the history, meaning and elements that have guided our church to celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord’s from the 1st Century to the 21st Century.

The “First Supper” classes, whose curriculum is designed for young minds and inquiring souls, will be held on six consecutive Sunday mornings before worship service, from 9 to 9:45 a.m.. in the Fireplace Room of our church. The teachers for our “First Supper” series are Mrs. Sue Howell and Mrs. Lorraine Swanson, both of whom are credentialed educators and who had taught the classes in previous years. In addition, Reverend Barbara will expand the Young People’s Message during 10 a.m. worship services to include focus on the origin and meaning of sacred words and symbols used in the practice of the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.

The six-week program will conclude with the students’ participation in our church’s celebration of the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper on Sunday, April 7, in our sanctuary.
