New Interim Church Music Director: Matthew Torres

Our Music Committee is “divinely delighted” to announce that Matthew Torres will begin serving as new Interim Church Music Director, effective Sunday, June 30.

Former Interim Choir Director, Mrs. Donna Blanchard, and former Interim Church Organist, Mrs. Betty Mack, have stepped away from Interim Music Leadership responsibilities as they have fulfilled these responsibilities for a considerable time span.

Over the past several years, many within our faith community have heard and seen Matthew in significant music leadership roles. On June 9 of this year, Matthew was our Youth Presenter and Guest Musician for Youth and Children Sunday. Making music has been an active part of Matthew’s life, starting in kindergarten when he began playing the violin. After several years, he exchanged the violin for the piano, which he continues to play to this day, continuing his private lessons at Apple Tree Arts in both piano and trumpet. In fourth grade, Matthew began studying the trumpet. His passion for trumpet playing has earned him many meaningful performance opportunities (e.g., Massachusetts Lions Club All-State Band; professional pit for the Hanover Theatre’s production of Beauty and the Beast; and Senior Festival District Band). Last year, Matthew began studying the organ under our church’s former Organist, Mrs. Betty Mack.

Matthew and his family moved to Grafton when he was in kindergarten. He observes that he has attended the Congregational Church of Grafton all his life. Matthew first recalls playing music in the church when he was seven years old. He remembers that he played the hymn, “Morning Has Broken.”

Even as our Music Committee continues its search for a permanent Church Music Director, we enthusiastically welcome Matthew Torres as our Church Music Director in this important in-between time.

Welcome, Matthew, as Interim Music Director for our church!
